What is a WisDOT-sponsored research project?
WisDOT’s Research Program sponsors research projects through the Wisconsin Highway Research Program and the Policy Research Program. A typical project requires 12-24 months of effort that is defined by a problem statement, research objective and scope of work. A research project may involve field study, data collection, material testing, surveys or other activities. A research project produces a final report that documents findings and outlines steps for implementation. Virtually all WisDOT-sponsored projects are conducted by consultant- or university-based researchers through a merit-based procurement process.
How to request a WisDOT-sponsored project
The WisDOT Research Program periodically solicits WHRP and Policy Research ideas. During non-solicitation periods, contact research@dot.wi.gov to discuss ideas for research projects. Research & Library staff may also be able to provide other services in advance of or in lieu of a full research project.
