The WisDOT Policy Research Program promotes and funds research that addresses planning, operations, safety, finance, economic impacts, environmental issues and other policy aspects of all transportation modes and all agency operations, including for the Division of Motor Vehicles and the Division of State Patrol.
The department’s Research & Library Advisory Committee (RLAC) provides program and project oversight for the program. RLAC is chaired by the Research Program Manager and is comprised of managers from each of the divisions, the executive offices and the FHWA Wisconsin Division office.
Research selection cycle
The Policy Research Program continually accepts research project ideas from staff, partners and research institutions and periodically issues a formal idea solicitation. The department typically funds between three and five Policy Research projects in a year through RFP solicitations.
